NA rejects bill seeking to bar disqualified members from heading political parties
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday rejected a bill presented by opposition lawmakers seeking to ban disqualified members from heading political parties, ARY News reported.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) legislator Naveed Qamar presented the bill in the National Assembly seeking amendment in Election Bill 2017 which allows disqualified members to head political parties, a provision opposition thinks was only inserted to facilitate former PM Nawaz Sharif.
98 NA members voted in favour of the bill while 163 opposed the bill.
Pakistan’s Senate and National Assembly last month passed Election Bill 2017 along with a controversial amendment paving way for former PM Nawaz Sharif to head the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
